Fishing Rod Tube – Protecting Your Fishing Rods

Every serious fishing enthusiast knows how important it is to look after their tackle, and that means knowing how to look after their rod. Aside from the typical rod and reel cases that are are quite popular, you can also purchase or make a fishing rod tube.

In choosing the appropriate fishing rod tube, there are several factors that you need to consider. First, you should be aware that rod tubes are designed to store the rods only, meaning, your fishing reels are excluded. If you want your reels to be included, then you need to have a rod case. Of course, you also need to choose the right size for your rods. You do not want to end up with your rods rattling around inside a tube that may be too long. You want your rods to fit perfectly in the tube to ensure its safe transport and storage.

If you are on a tight budget and don’t feel like buying one or you can’t seem to find the appropriate size, then you could make your own! All you need is a plastic plumbing pipe. You can easily buy them in your local hardware, plumbing or electrical stores.

In making your own, you need to measure the length of your fishing rod to ensure that you are buying the appropriate sized plastic plumbing pipe. You should add an additional 6 inches on for comfort. Also, you need to buy an end cap for the PVC pipe. Just apply an ample amount of PVC cement into the cap and slide your tube into it, allowing the cement to dry completely. Finally, slide your fishing rod inside and screw the screw cap into the open end of the PVC. There you have it – a waterproof, durable, homemade fishing rod tube!

ok, but only fits two very small rods

Review Date: March 17, 2010
Reviewer: C. Dong,
This case can fit two light action rod and reel combos adequately. However, they have to be pretty small for both of them to fit. If one of your rods has large eyes or a reel bigger than a 2000 series, you'll likely be out of luck. The length and quality is quite good, but the tube is really narrow.

If you like to travel with more than one rod, you might consider getting two of these to use to transport them individually.

Fishing Rod Cases: The Easy Way To Travel

Every angler I have met over the years has secret destination that they love to visit. That once in a lifetime place that trophy fish lie and wait. But, getting there can be an adventure in itself so you gotta plan what gear you need and what to pack especially for air travel.

If you plan to take your own tackle you will need a fishing rod case or tube, in shore and fly fisherman who own two or three piece travel rods can carry them aboard planes as long as it fits in an overhead bin. If fishing off shore your rods are likely one piece sticks that you will have to package in an extendable tube. You may include the tube as one of your two checked pieces but be aware some airlines charge extra for oversize baggage.

You can buy a flexible fishing rod cases that come with wheels although there is a chance that these can get crushed during transit. To protect your reels against damage and theft you should always carry them abroad. Use a soft side tackle bag with dividers wrapped in cloth for extra protection. Choose a small bag or even a tackle back back that fits under the seat, one that wont weigh a tonne when packed with all that metal.

Place tackle in your checked bag, hooks or even mono or line make security officials nervous. Once on site take the reels out of your tackle bag and replace them with your lures line and tools and go catch that dream fish.

Fishing Rod Cases On The Road

Just recently a buddy of mine was planning a fishing trip to Mexico and was in the market for some new fishing rod cases. Well, he was hoping I would point him in the right direction and of course I duly obliged. On one condition though, he give me a full low down on how his new gear handled their first road trip.

Flambeau Bazuka Pro Rod case was one of my recommendations and by all accounts it preformed very well. Rob was able to load 9 rods in to the case stretching it out to 8′7. “The case traveled great strapped down in the bed of their truck. If your going to be strapping this down its best you secure it across the body and steer clear of the handles. It looks like they have the potential to break under heavy strapping.

The sturdy hinged door provides easy access for loading and unloading rods with their reels attached. It will easily hold quite a few rods if you intend on leaving the reels off. Although it is quite a heavy case it was pretty easy to handle and maneuver. That being said it will take up quite a bit of room on smaller boats. I’d also suggest you get a small lock to secure the latch door, just to be sure, you wouldn’t want it opening while your travelling down the highway.

I’m glad I choose this piece gear, it will be perfect for storing rods in the garage during the off season. Its tough, it looks great and its a great space saving product.”

Does the job !

Review Date: August 26, 2010
Reviewer: Bchino,
I bought this in order to transport my 11 foot sunami surf rods to florida from N.Y. I wasn't sure if my rods were going to survive the plane trip. When I got to florida I opened the case right there in the airport. I was relieved to see my rods were fine. The case protected the rods and no damage to the case. The locks that come with the case worked very well also. Thumbs up !
Works for swords too!

Reviewer: Brad Anderson, Fargo, ND USA
I bought this on the recommendation of a fellow swordsman. I needed a hard case to take my katana on the airplane without paying excess baggage charges. This case is going to be perfect.
I added some extra thick/firm foam in the top and bottom of the case, and will insulate the katana with another two cut out circles of foam in the middle. The sword will be completely immobile within the case, and it's lockable with one TSA cable lock, or two TSA padlocks.
Perfect!

Reviewer: Robert Labay,
Nice and compact beat's their old version and I managed to get all 6 rods that I bought on amazon.
Works great

Case works great, even comes with padding on both ends. Suggestion to avoid TSA breaking your rods during inspection - only extend the middle section to the length of the rods and then put a zip tie through the hole so it won't move. The top section will still extend and be available for TSA to remove for inspection, but it won't collapse below the length of the rods and snap the tips when they put it back on.
